Lilypaw padded softly into the clearing. Her mentor had been nusy, and let her go hunting by herself, just to see if she could catch anything. She had just come to this spot, and could no longer see the sun across the territory. She sighed in frustration, eying the trees. Yeah, she'd get a good veiw from there. Going for a running start, she hopped at the tree, getting a claw in. Shescrambled wildly up, missing the nick by a paw. She fell to the ground, and hicked her claws in more carefully, shimmying up little by little.

Ripplepaw gave a snort of amusement as Lilypaw tried to climb the tree. He had been sitting up on the tree's biggest branch, quite a ways up, for some time now. It was easily the tom's favorite branch, it had a nice view, and it was almost impossible to fall off of. "Hey Lilypaw, having some troubles?" Ripplepaw called down, knocking a leaf of it's branch so Lilypaw knew where the voice was coming from. [/blockquote]

Silence fell over the forest as nothing stirred or moved, they didn't dare to. Danger was afoot to any creature small enough to be killed. Black as the night Darkpaw watched with round greenish blue eyes, a mouse moved cautiously to the clearing, seeing some food it rushed over immediately, a grin formed on the dark apprentice's face as he flexed his shoulders, ready for the pounce. his claws dug into the soil as he got ready to take off, the mouse was now in his complete view. Darkpaw made his decision to strike, he darted from his hiding spot and onto the mouse, it was to surprised as Darkpaw sunk his long fangs in it's neck, killing it instantly. He never felt sorry for his prey, the clan had to eat somehow right? He sighed as he swept a tongue over his pelt and looked around. he heard a bird chirping in the distance, perhaps another piece of prey?
He took the mouse in his large jaw and started to dig a hole, placing it in the soft soil of the earth he moved on, he would pick it up later. If Darkpaw came back to camp with alot of fresh-kill then he would get praise from his mentor, which was his number one goal right now. you could call Darkpaw an ambitious apprentice, but seriously, he really wasn't. he just wanted to be the best he could be, and if that meant proving himself to his mentor and leader, than ok. Yeah he had dreams to become a leader someday, but that really wasn't on his list right now, he liked Echostar, he was a great leader. Darkpaw mainly kept to himself alot, he didn't associate with cats that much, mainly because he usually had nothing to say. He wasn't good at starting conversations, or making friends, so he just really didn't bother. But he knew he longed for at least one friend, just one would make his day.
Trotting to where he heard the bird a scent washed over his nose, and he knew right away that it was a clan cat, two of his clanmates were here now. He tried masking his emotions as much as he could as he came upon two apprentices, it was Lilypaw and Ripplepaw. Dipping his head to both of them he mewed, "Good evening Lilypaw and Ripplepaw." he sat down a little from where they were.

Lilypaw felt the leaf softly on her nose first, and couldn't see. "Hey, Lilypaw, having some troubles?" She heard a voice above. Shaking her head franticly, she couldn't get the leaf off. She dropped to the ground in defeat, spitting at the leaf. Lilypaw eyed the tree again apprehensively. Could she not beat a simple twig. She took a deep breath, steadying he fury at the tom up inthe tree. "Would you just shut up and let me do this?!" She yelled angrily. She hated that he knew she was struggling.
Eying the tree again, She spotted a few parts where cats had placed their careful paws. She ran at the tree, hooking her paws in nicely until...
An emotionless voice startled her, and she fell, only a claw away from making it. "Mousebrain!" She hissed, wacking the tom upside the head with a sheathed paw. She inwardly cursed her short temper.

darkpaw didn't notice Lilypaw climbing to the top of the tree, and he knew he should have kept his mouth shut, but his inner conscious kept telling him that he needed to be more talkative and cheerful, if he ever wanted a friend. he was about to apologize before she came and batted him outside the head, it barely phased him. But he still was surprised, never would a cat dare to hit him like that, they were to scarred to even attempt to talk to him. he wanted to smack her back, but he remembered what his mother had told him, to never hit a girl if they haven't hurt or threatened you. yeah, lilypaw did smack him, but he probably deserved that. And he wanted a friend why? He looked up at ripplepaw and rolled his eyes as the apprentice continued to have a laughing fit over the matter.

Lilypaw took deep breaths, feeling a pinch in her throat and her face get hot. "Stupid traitor tears!" She wanted to yowl, but she held her tounge. No way would she cry in front ofthis emotionless freak. She turned away from him roughly, making sure to bump her small shoulder into him. He barely flinched, but she felt a little better in the pit of her stomach.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her wyes tight. "Just pretend they aren't there," She thought, "It's just you and the tree." Opening hereyes again, she barely felt the toms' presence. She sprang atthe tree, getting her soft white paws in the same places as the last time, reaching up for a next until she swatted the air. She stumbled clumbsily ofer the hitch in the tree, comming to an awkwasd seat on a branch. "I did it!" She wanted to dance and sing, but just let a smile play carefully at the corner of her mouth. Her green eyes sparkled, but a pink sheen layered itself on the green from the sunrise as she looked at Darkpaw below, a mocking gleam in her eye. She knew she'd never be able to show him up again, so she milked it.

A tortishel froze, eyes slitted at plump young bird watching her with one dark almost black browish eye. It's wings tensed to unfold, she didn't making a single move. Her tortishell fur hazed in front of the bird, it had been staring at her so long his eyes became unfocused. It turned it's head back to the worm below him, which was almost completly in the ground. It lowered it's head and grabbed the worm and started pulling befoe she coulkd blink. Opening her green eyes wide she moved slightly, putting one paw in front of the other until she could tape thebird in the back with her claw. Wriggling her haunches she lept, claws exctended and fangs bared. Falling on the bird she planted her paws on the wings of the bird and lowered her head so quickly, her back pawshadn't hit the ground yet. Her fangs met the birds throat as her back paws landed with a thump, the bird's heart stopped immediatly. Lifting her paw she put her front paw of one wing, and then she put the other paw of the other wing and lifted her head. The worm wriggled back into the ground and Dappledpaw silently pushed her way under a thorn-bush, sucessfuly going under the space where a large kit could have gone, or a young apprentice. Buring her bird where her mouse and two fish lay she twitched her ears and fluffed up her neck fur, curling her lip up into a snarl at a distant, yet close noise. Spinnign around in the confined space she lept out, letting her fur lie and and her lips when back to normal as she recagnised the vioces and smell of her Clan-mates. Walking up she saw Lillypaw and Ripplepaw in a tree and Darkpaw standing below. Trotting up with a smile and thin-trailed walk she was standing almost directly below Lillypaw and standing in front of Darkpaw. She couldn't see Ripplepaw. Purring, "Hello Ripplepaw." She looked up into the branches that held new leaves and beautiful flowers and blooms. Turning to Lillypaw she mewed, "Great day to Lillypaw. " The she dipped her head to Darkpaw. She admired him, being out of the pack kinda cat, not following the fish in the river. She like that in a cat, and she had that to. Siting down onm the dead leaves from last leaf-fall she wrapped her tail over her paws and watched Darkpaw, waiting for his next move, since she didn't want to look up.

Darkpaw twitched his lip as Lilypaw bumped by him, but of course it didn't phase him, nothing ever phases him unless it's real painful. he hid his desire to slap her across the face, but his will power was stronger than that, so he refrained. What was he doing here anyway? they didn't want him as their friend, just to sit there and mock him for who he is. cats like that never floated his boat. he watched lilypaw climb up the tree, and it was a success this time, she made it to the branch and stared mockingly down at darkpaw, he just shrugged at her and yawned, He heard silent footsteps fall behind him as he whipped around to face Dappledpaw, he secretly was crushing on the pretty tortoiseshell apprentice, she was beautiful, and to top it off, she was different from any other cat. but he kept his feelings buried deep inside, he didn't want to show what he felt, she looked at him and dipped her head after greeting Ripplepaw and Lilypaw, he dipped his head back, "good morning Dappledpaw, how's the hunting?" he asked, trying to fill the silence around them.

Lilypaw turned away, content with his ignorance. It suited her better than taunting like the tom in the tree. If she had been in a better mood, she'd have been much more friendly, but if that was how StarClan grantedit, so mote it be.
She looked out at the sunrise and her breath caught in her throat. It was beautiful. The black of the night faded to a light blue, then a wonderful pink seemed to push them away. She couldn't see where the sun was exactly, but it pushed it's yellow rays through the pink, creating the most magnificent scene before her. She forgot about the small one-sided quarrel below and the arrogant tom near her, loosing herself in the beauty of the morning.

Dappledpaw loked up at rsting in the tree, then she noticed is was just Lillypaw, turning around. Yet, she had the most awe-struck face. Turning to where she was looking, not taking her eyes off of her until she reached the pint she took in a sharp breath. The sunrise she could see through the trees to, though barley. At least some moorland helped her better. It was amazing, beautiful, yet it wasn't quite right. One thing it needed, just one . . . maybe, flower-filled trees? She couldn't guess. She got annoyed with herself sometimes. Oh well. She jumped a little when she herd a bird fluttering up to the tree-tops suddenly, close and then thought. Maybe I am tough enough to confront my leader, but fly out of my fur at a bird."

Darkpaw followed the gawking she-cats eyes to the setting sun in the horizon. It's orage and pink rays klssed the earth with it radient shine. Darkpaw wasn't into things like this, sure he described everything beautiful, the two she-cats before him were way beautiful, he was even lucky to ge their undivided attention. Lilypaw had a way of showing others that she doesn't like to be bossed around and ignored, which meant that she was strong all around. Darkpaw saw that unique trait in her, and Dappledpaw was sweet and a little on the feisty side, he could see her being a great worrior and queen. Cats were special in their own ways, take darkpaw for instance, he was quiet, calm and careful about things, cats look at him and could see fear planted in their eyes, they were probably thinking he was going to be a ruthless cat with high ambitions. he really wasn't like that, cats never talked to him, so they never saw his soft side, the side they cares and loves, that understands. If only they knew.
He shuffled his paws in the dirt as he narrowed his eyes, he was deep in thought, thinking of what he could possibly do to make a friend around here.

Dappledpaw flicked her ears, "Now what do I do? Grow wings and fly off?" She turned around and anoounced, "Well, if no on ehas anythign else to say, then I'll be off." She shrugged and she stood up, shaking herself slightly. She opened her mouth to say another thing, then she sneezed and glared at little fly that had landed on her nose, but had been blown off and now was flying towards her ear. She raised one paw, then sent it flying toward a treee, she didn't hear buzzing beside her ear again. She, with an abruptly seriese tone, that hide laughter that danced in her eyes, mewed, "Ok, then, no lats words?"

Dappeledpaw seemed to find the right words to snap Lilypaw out of her trance. Why had she never noticed the beauty of the forrest before? "Oh, umm... Have a nice day?" She called back half-heartedly, unsure of what the she-cat expected her to say. Lilypaw leaped down from the brances that she'd tried so hard to get up without a second glance at the tree. "I should be getting to hunting. That is what I should be doing, after all." She made her was past Darkpaw, forgetting to be cold after the trance that shook her up. She gave him a quick smile, dropping it the next second and leaping off through the undergroath.

Dappledpaw purred goodbye then swept through the undergrowth, in hopes that she could find another bird. The undergrowth seemed to shake even before her paws came near it. She thought the better of it, maybe she was imagining things again. Then, a low, menising snarl vibrate off the trees around them, two golden eyes glaring from the bushes she about lept in. Scarlet-brown fur shown from the shadows and a fox stalkedalmost calmly out, knowing it could take on a few apprentices in a heart-beat. She stopped as soon as her paws hit the ground. HeO.Or head leaned back as if only her body, not her head, moved as she struggled to regain herself. Claws creating small, yet deep scores in the ground and the fox just licked it's lips and stopped, crouching low, prepairing for another extra-ordinary leap. HEr green eyes widened to green full-moons.

The she-cats decided to come down to earth and leave, Dappledpaw went one way, and Lilypaw went the way Darkpaw had come, he watched Lilypaw give him a sweet smile and then she disappeared,Dappledpaw went the other way. he just sat there and looked out at the sky, thinking he was the reason for the cats leaving. he didn't mind though, it common. But something felt out of place, something was happening that he could not explain. he heard a low snarl ripple through the air and knew instantly it was a fox. The noise came the way Dappledpaw left. Fur along his spine stood as he rushed from his spot and into the forest, he dodged low branches and bushes till he got to Dappledpaw, staring wide-eyed at the fox before her. He let out a deathly hiss making the fox's head swing his way. this fox was no more than a pup, but he looked hungry enough.
Darkpaw decided quickly as he started towards him, the fox gave a dog like grin while she leapt and jumped on its back, sinking his claws deep into the fox's back, making it let out a yowl of pain. It tried shaking him off, but his claws were so deep he held on. He climbed up the Fox's back and to it's neck, sinking his teeth deep into the scruff of it's neck. He felt the warm blood pulse from it and he struggled to keep on it.
